Basketball is back in Lake Placid! Come join us on the court for a warm winter sport.
Ages
We offer Kindergarten through Grade 2 for our youngest ballers.
Grades 3 & 4 and Grades 5 & 6 play in the Essex County sports league. All teams are co-ed.
When
Registration begins mid-October.
Season runs late November through late February.
Where
Practices occur at the Lake Placid Elementary School.
Home games occur at the Lake Placid Middle-High School.
Practices
K through Grade 2 practice once per week.
Teams at the Grade 3/4 and Grade 5/6 level practice twice per week.
Games
Teams for Grade 3/4 and Grade 5/6 participate in Essex County League play and are scheduled throughout Essex County and Saranac Lake, typically Saturday mornings.
Jerseys
Basketball shirts are available for purchase during registration. Returning players need not purchase a shirt if they have one from a prior season. These are required for athletes that wish to play on Saturday play days for Grades 3-6.
Extra Costs
$10 additional cost for those players needing a new practice/game shirt for season play or new athletes to basketball.
Frequently Asked Questions
What equipment do we need?
Clean athletic shoes are required for practice and games. Athletes may not wear their outside shoes on the courts. Balls are provided for practices and games from the association.
Can I come to practice?
Because we're partnered with LPCSD to offer basketball, we cannot allow adults or non-participating family members to be present during practices. We appreciate your cooperation with this.
Are scholarships available?
The LPYAA offers need-based scholarships upon request. Contact lpyaasports@gmail.com to inquire about funding options.

2025-26 Basketball
LPYAA Basketball is a youth basketball program for children kindergarten through 6th grade. It is intended to build basic basketball skills, competitive skills and have fun.
Our program is skills based, and consequently concentrate on the little things in basketball, such as individual moves, passing, shooting, and working with teammates. We plan practices so that scrimmage time is equal to skills practice time. Our goal is to instruct in such a manner that all players learn so they will be successful at their next level of play.
Practices begin November 4th for 3rd-6th graders. All practices are at the LPES gymnasium. Parents are asked to drop off and pick up. There is not room to spectate practice.
3rd and 4th graders will practice Tuesday and Thursday's from 5:30-6:30.
5th and 6th graders will practice Tuesdays and Thursdays 6:45-8:00.
3rd-6th Grade will have games on Saturdays starting in January.
K-2 will practice on Wednesday nights.
We are still looking for kindergarten and 1st and 2nd grade volunteer coaches.
If school is not in session, then there will not be practice this includes holidays and snow days.
